WORKS OF THE FIRST PERIOD

First period (1976-1979): This period includes The Art of Living (El Arte de Vivir), the trilogy Toward the Regions of the Sun (Hacia las Regiones del Sol), The Starry World (El Mundo Estelar), and Intimations of Immortality (Indicios de Inmortalidad).

The works are characterised by a language made up of images accompanied only by music. However, and on a relatively atemporal plane, the first of the works of this period, The Art of Living (El Arte de Vivir), is also of a semi-documentary nature.

The music that permanently moulds these works and subsequent ones was written by composers of the polyphonic, classical, romantic and principally post-romantic periods.

These works thematically constitute metaphorical expressions related to several authors, especially Edward Carpenter.

This initial stage is at the same time marked by the dissemination of the audiovisual theory of the author through the first publication of his book Audiovisualogy, The Audiovisual as Art and Means of Communication (Audiovisualogía, El Audiovisual como Arte y Medio de Comunicación).

This is an illustrated essay which grew out of the author’s need to put in writing the empirical results extracted from the study of the audiovisual as an artistic expression, and directed at the artist, teacher, aesthete or communicator desirous of investigating the idiosyncrasy of this form of expression.

Finally, The Audiovisual and the Arts (El Audiovisual y las Artes), an essay that supplements the previous one, is the culmination of the investigation into the subject in these first years.

Into the Regions of the Sun

This Trilogy, like all the works of this first period, is deeply influenced by the thoughts and poetics of Edward Carpenter, although it evokes both the pantheistic and neoplatonic vision of the universe, specially developed in the later work Indications of Immortality on the Poetry of William Wordsworth. This author linked the theme of the immortality of the soul to the state that persists exclusively during childhood. From there the choice that was made for all the works of this period with children as protagonists.
